Burberry
Thomas Burberry founded Burberry in 1856 in Basingstoke at the age of just 21, based on the idea that clothing should be designed to protect against the conditions of the British climate. In 1972 Burberry formally acquired the factory in Castleford, the birthplace of the Burberry trench coat, thus increasing its presence in the UK manufacturing landscape; a legacy that continues to this day. In 1999 Burberry's became Burberry; for the occasion, artistic director Fabien Baron designed a new logo for the brand. A year later the brand opened its first boutique on Bond Street. From September 2022 the creative director is Daniel Lee.
