Moncler
Moncler is an abbreviation of Monestier-de-Clermont, a mountain village near Grenoble. Here, inspired entrepreneur Renรฉ Ramillon and Andrรจ Vincent founded the company in 1952. In 1954 the first down jackets were conceived to protect workers who wore them over their overalls against the cold, in the small mountain factory. French mountaineer Lionel Terray first noticed them and rhe result was the specialist range โMoncler for high resistance and protection against the harshest climates that will be used several expeditions all over the world. In 1968 Moncler become the official supplier to the French downhill ski team at the Grenoble Winter Olympic Games. From the 1980s Moncler, with its original stitching and its โlacqueredโ effect in dazzling colours, finally made its grand entrance into town. The designer Chantal Thomass will worked alongside the company until 1989, reworking the look of the classic down jacket. In 2003 the brand was bought out by Italian entrepreneur Remo Ruffini who working on fit, aesthetic research, experimentalism and materials clarify the Moncler universal spirit. Starting from 2020 Stone Island joins Moncler.
